Geneviève Malouin-Diraddo, a member of the Glengarry District High School steering committee, sports a “Glengarry SOS -- Save Our Schools” T-shirt. The group will join a rally opposing school closures at 9 a.m. Friday at Bridgewood Public School in Cornwall.

MPP Grant Crack sent a letter to GDHS school council, saying, “I don’t want this school to close.” He added the Glengarry community needs to work together to find “a local solution” that “ensures our schools have enough students to offer a full range of programming and a vibrant learning environment.” The Liberal MPP pledged: "You can count on my support as I am very committed to doing my part."

True to their school

Parent Connie Hurtubise of Alexandria voices her concerns about the proposed school closure at a public meeting Wednesday night at Glengarry District High School. About 85 parents, students and community supporters attended the two-hour session. Char-Lan District High School will be the site of another meeting tonight (Oct. 6) at 7 p.m. in the high school canteen.

The printed community newspaper is by far the favourite source of local news and information in communities large and small across Canada, according to studies conducted by Heritage Canada.

Time spent with a community newspaper is virtually unchanged compared to two years ago. Not surprisingly, the predominant reason for reading printed community newspapers is for local information, including news, editorial, sports, entertainment, and events.

Recent research finds that printed community newspaper readers are engaged; they are more likely to closely follow all types of news, particularly local news, most of the time.

Over the past weekend, culprit(s) spray-painted graffiti on a commercial building located on Industrial Boulevard in Alexandria.
