Fatal closes section of 417

A fatal collision involving three tractor trailers that burst into flames has closed a section of the westbound Highway 417 at County Road 14 near Chute-à-Blondeau east of Hawkesbury. One person died in the accident that occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m.Highway 417 Westbound is closed at County Road 14 and detours will be in effect for several hours.

Bus driver charged

Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police has charged the driver of a double decker bus following an investigation into a collision that occurred on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township June 23, 2015.
Gary Graham, 64, of Lombardy, Ontario is charged with careless driving.
He was driving the bus that collided with the rear of a westbound tractor trailer east of Lancaster. Several passengers were injured, some seriously.

North Glengarry man injured in rollover

A 25-year-old North Glengarry man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday after the fuel tanker truck he was driving rolled over on Highway 417, spilling fuel and forcing the closure of the road for about four hours.
Charges are pending against the owner of the vehicle, says Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Janice Sawbridge.
The Hawkesbury OPP detachment continues to investigate the accident that occurred at 1:06 p.m. as the truck was travelling westbound on the 417 near County Road 4 in East Hawkesbury. The tanker contained over 18,000 litres of fuel at the time.
The Ministry of the Environment was consulted and the clean-up is continuing.
Charges are pending under the Dangerous Goods Transportation Act.

Driver charged in fatal

A 77-year-old Gatineau woman has been charged with careless driving in a fatal crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Highway 417 near Maxville in September. Sylvain Coulombe, 38, of St-Eugène-Guigues, Québec, died at the scene of the crash. More in our February 11 edition.
